About

Karel Desnijder is a researcher in high energy lasers with focus on the interaction between the laser and germanium lenses. These lenses are commonly used for thermal infrared sensors but become opaque when heated up by the laser. Aditionally, he investigates the atmospheric propagation of high energy lasers and the impact of turbulence and thermal blooming.

These factors can cause defocusing of the laser beam, which limits the maximum irradiance at the target.
